Laura Strunk joined the Department of Social Work as an adjunct faculty in 2003 and was hired as Assistant Professor in 2008. Laurie received her MSSW degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Stout. She is currently pursuing her Psy.D. in School Psychology program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Laurie is licensed at the LICSW level with the Minnesota Board of Social Work. She is working with the South Central Children’s Mental Health Initiative (SCCMHI) as the program evaluator, researching and providing an evaluation of some programs including Adolescent Transition to Adulthood, Crisis Response to Mental Health Crises and Integrating Services for Complex Client Conditions.
Laurie has 18 years of experience working in the field of social work. Her primary interest areas are working with at-risk children and youth, child welfare issues, and mental health issues. Laurie has worked in many types of service areas including residential treatment centers, group homes, community mental health centers and most recently had worked for Brown County Family Services in the Children’s Services Unit. In addition, Laurie has worked with many at-risk females providing them the opportunity to participate in adolescent dialectical behavioral therapy groups. Laurie has worked in very rural settings in Wisconsin and Minnesota and has worked in urban settings in Wisconsin.
