  • All students in their junior year participate in Public Achievement, a program in which they coach a citizen action team at Dakota Meadows Middle School in North Mankato.
  • Students are invited to attend relevant conferences sponsored by College departments, the College of Education, and the Minnesota Council for the Social Studies (MCSS).
  • Students may participate in Multi-Cultural Pre-Teaching Experiences, a project for social studies students to tutor Hispanic students at area high schools. See the social studies coordinator if you are interested in participating.
  • Every other year the program takes a study tour of Mexico during spring break. Prior to the tour students study about the history of Mexico. As part of the tour MSU students deliver social studies lessons to secondary students at ITESM, Campus Irapuato.
  • The social stuides program offers scholarships to support pre-service social studies students who take advantage of international learning opportunities.  Scholarships range in value from $500 to $2000.
