ABout Dr. Viorica Marian

Dr. Viorica Marian is a psycholinguist and cognitive scientist at Northwestern University, where she is the Sundin Endowed Professor of Communication Sciences & Disorders and of Psychology. Dr. Marian is a recipient of the American Association for the Advancement of Science 2024 John P. McGovern Award, the Clarence Simon Award for Outstanding Teaching & Mentoring, the University of Alaska Alumni of Achievement Award, and the Editor’s Award for best paper from JSLHR. Her new popular science book, “The Power of Language” is a groundbreaking exploration of how language shapes our minds and influences our cognitive abilities. Dr. Marian delves into the intricate ways in which language operates within our brains and how it can unlock remarkable potential.
