Mission: Prepare students to be ethical and effective members of the criminal justice system by introducing them to the research-based knowledge and practical skills needed to promote public safety, quality of life, and restorative justice in the diverse communities they will serve.

Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice program is for students who want serve in one of the governmental or social institutions tasked with enforcing laws and serving communities affected by crime. The program has a flexible major that will prepare students for careers in a wide variety of criminal justice related fields.

Policing Studies

The Policing Studies Program is a pre-professional program accredited by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standard and Training (POST) that prepares students to successfully meet the requirements to take the state licensure exam in order to obtain employment as a peace officer in the State of Minnesota. Students completing this program are also prepared to pursue a career as a peace officer in other states and federal agencies.

Corrections

Corrections is designed to prepare students for entry level professional work in corrections. The major is built upon a foundation of general education, sociological and criminological concepts, and a commitment to understanding and transforming correctional practice. The major achieves its objectives through the melding of academic learning with experiential education.

Pre-Law

The Pre-Law program at Minnesota State Mankato is a pre-major, which means that it is done in conjunction with another academic major. Pre-majors do not have a set curriculum, although there are some courses that are recommended in preparing for law school.
