Profile

David Laverny-Rafter holds a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a MCRP degree in city planning from Rutgers University and a B.A. in history from Southern Illinois University. He as worked full-time on a variety of planning and research projects with federal, state and local units of government including working as a Senior Planner in Bloomington, Indiana; as an evaluator or urban programs with the U.S. General Accounting Office and the Minnesota Legislative Auditor's Office; and as a research consultant with Minnesota Department of Transportation, etc. In addition, he has been active in leadership roles with several community organizations including serving as President of Transit for Livable Communities, a member of the Board of Directors of the Mankato Coalition for Affordable Housing, and on the Planning Commission for Madison, Wisconsin. His specialized research interests include transportation planning, housing, New Urbanism and transit-oriented development. He is married to Florence Laverny-Rafter who is a French citizen and visiting her home town in southwestern France is the highlight of every year.
