David Laverny-Rafter has been a Professor of Urban Planning at Minnesota State University, Mankato since 1982. He holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a MCRP degree in city planning from Rutgers University. He has worked full-time on a variety of planning and research projects with federal, state and local units of government including working as a Senior Planner in Bloomington, Indiana; as an evaluator of urban programs with the U.S. Government Accountability Office and the Minnesota Legislative Auditor's Office; and as a research consultant with Minnesota Department of Transportation, etc. In addition, he has been active in leadership roles with several community organizations including serving as President of Transit for Livable Communities, and on the Planning Commission for Madison, Wisconsin. His specialized research interests include transportation planning and sustainable transit planning where he has published numerous journal articles and presented conference papers. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
