Paul Mackie to Join National Dialogue on Rural Families next week in Washington DC (Feb. 2016)

Minnesota State Mankato Professor Paul Mackie will participate in national meetings on rural mental health issues. He will be part of a meeitng with current and former government leaders in Washington, DC as part of the While House Rural Council. He is the current president of the National Association of Rural Mental Health (NARMH).

Nancy Fitzsimons' Work Highlighted in NASW National News (Feb. 2016)

The February edition of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Social Work in the Public Eye featured Dr.Fitzsimons' contributions to an important Star Tribune news story series run late last year which quoted her comments. She is considered a foremost expert in the area of services for people with disabilities.

Christine Black-Hughes Featured on Cover of "Social Dialogue"

Dr. Christine Black-Hughes, who spent most of Spring and Summer 2016 in East London, East Cape of South Africa was featured on the cover and inside of "Social Dialogue" a journal published by the International Association of Schools of Social Work. Our department colleague Kofi Danso brought a group of 15 students to South African for a study trip last May and they met up with Chris Black-Hughes while there. The trip on Social Work and Social Development in South Africa is offered every other year and is in partnership with the University of Fort Hare. The article discusses this partnership.

BSSW Alum David Wentzel Honored

David Wentzel, who graduated from the MSU Mankato Department of Social Work in 2011, was among a group recently honored by receiving the Minnesota Humanities Center's Veterans Voices Award. David works in the local office of Senator Tim Walz as a veteran's advocate. He is originally from Luverne, MN and served 16 months in Iraq while in the National Guard.
