Dr. Manahan began her career at Minnesota State University, Mankato in 1979 and retired in December 2001. Vanda holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Her major area was adult education with social work as a supporting area. Her dissertation, entitled "Education of Adult Children for Care giving Duties to Aging Parents," combined interests in adult education, social work, gerontology and women's issues. Vanda's MSW is from Virginia Commonwealth University where her emphasis was administration. She also holds an M.A. in Adult Education from Morehead State University, Morehead, KY.
Her last sabbatical was spent studying International Child Welfare at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. She coordinated the Department's program in Guatemala.
Vanda began her social work career with the Dept. of Child Welfare in Morehead, KY. Her responsibilities included protective services, juvenile probation, adoption, foster care, and services to unmarried parents. The department reorganized to include all social services, becoming the KY Department for Human Resources where she worked as a team leader, and social services supervisor.
Beginning in Fall of 2009, Dr. Manahan has taken on a new opportunity to serve students and the profession by becoming the Chairperson of the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire Department of Social Work. We wish her the greatest success in this endeavor!
