Child Welfare Program

The Department of Social Work, Minnesota State University, Mankato, has had a thriving undergraduate Title IV-E program since 2005.  It has successfully helped more than 75 BSSW and 20 MSW graduates to launch or continue child welfare careers  in 20 Minnesota counties and four other states.  All information related to program availability or amounts of the stipend are contingent on the Department receiving the Title IV-E contract for the budgeted amount from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.  Scholars will be notified if there is any change to the contract in a timely manner.  Only students who have already achieved admission to the BSSW or MSW program will be considered for this program.

The primary goal of this program is to support the recruitment, education, and or retention of a well-prepared public child welfare workforce in Minnesota. The BSSW program, emphasizing generalist practice, and the advanced generalist MSW Program, emphasizing practice in small and rural communities, provides a critical foundation for work in public child welfare.  Every Scholar may not choose to practice in rural settings but completion of social work education at Mankato State supports employment in urban, metro, or suburban, including small and rural, communities.  Participation in this program provides social work students and future social work professionals the opportunity to better prepare themselves for practice with children and families.  Research has proven that well trained social work professionals do make a difference in the lives of the children and families they serve, in the agencies where they are employed, and in the communities in which they live. This difference contributes to a better quality of life for all citizens.

This Title IV-E Child Welfare Program Scholar Webpage will assist you in understanding the goals, procedures, and expectations for the BSSW and the MSW CWP.  You will find information, descriptions, definitions, and the documents necessary to make your experience proceed smoothly.  Please read it carefully!  Your feedback and suggestions for making this a ‘user-friendly’ site are welcome.  Please click either the BSSW or MSW icon for additional information.
