Welcome to our graduates who have found this website!

Thanks for your continued interest in the Department of Social Work! Please don't hesitate to contact us with any news about your career, questions about graduate school, willingness to be a supervisor, or anything else. It is always a joy to run into former students at conferences (MSSA, NASW, the State Supervisors Conference, etc.) and hear about your amazing accomplishments!

Please also make sure that the Alumni Relations office has your latest address information so that they can make sure you get the various University magazines and other mailings.  You can also check out our Facebook page and post information about yourself there!

Your role as an "alum"

Each fall semester, usually in November, the Department honors the student authors of the three best SOWK-190W Social Welfare Services papers from the previous year as "Social Welfare Scholars."  Following that, the Department recognizes one of its graduates as the Alumna of the Year. As of 2012, we have added a new award for new professionals. See below. We also have a BSSW Community Advisory Board. You may wish to get involved with that, too.

Alumna of the Year Recognition

Each year in the fall we formally recognize a Social Work Alumna of the Year, from among the  approximately 1600 social workers who have graduated from either our undergraduate BSSW program or our graduate MSW program. 

If you or someone you know graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato - yes, even when it was Mankato State University - please send us their name, address, email, phone number, and tell us why you wish to nominate them. We'll contact them and see if they will accept the award and speak to students at our fall Honor's Day Celebration. 

• Has significantly contributed to the social work profession and community at a local, national, and/or international level;
• Is a degreed alumnus (BSSW or MSW) of the Minnesota State University, Mankato, Department of Social Work;
• Demonstrates outstanding contributions to service (e.g. service to the department—adjunct, CAB; service to our students—field supervisor, guest speaker; service to the community; etc.);
• Has the highest standards of personal integrity and character; and
• Exemplifies social work values and ethics.

• Contributes to the social work profession and community at a local, national, and/or international level;
