The Department of Sociology and Corrections employs graduate assistants each year. These assistants teach, research, advise, and help administer programs. All graduate assistants must be full-time graduate students. Graduate assistants receive a tuition waiver of up to 18 graduate credits per year and may qualify for in-state tuition rates. In addition, they receive valuable educational and professional opportunities.

Federal work study graduate assistantship applications are available through the Financial Aid Office. Other graduate assistantship applications are available from the College of Graduate Studies and should be completed and returned to the department. Applications must be turned in by March 1 to be considered for Fall appointments.

Other assistantships are available from Student Affairs, the Memorial Library, and the Residential Life offices of the University. Affirmative action graduate assistantships are available for American ethnic minority students. A listing of available graduate assistantships is maintained at the Career Development Center. Assistantship applications are available from the Graduate Studies Office or the Career Development Center. Completed applications are submitted directly to the department or office offering the assistantship.

Other types of financial assistance are available through the Office of Financial Aid.
