Rome. Morning guided tour of ancient Rome including the Colosseum and Forum. The Colosseum was the first permanent ampitheater to be built in Rome. Its monumental size and graddeur make it one of the great architectural monuments achieved by the ancient Romans. The Forum was the center of political and social activity. It was the marketplace of Rome and also the business district and civic center. Afternoon is free for independent exploration. (B) |

Rome/Pompeii/Naples. Morning departure to Pompeii for afternoon guided tour; transfer to Naples with possible free time. Reassemble at a local restaurant for a group dinner. Then proceed to the pier for overnight ferry to Palermo (3 or 4 berth cabins provided) (B,D) |

Taormina/Siracusa/Catania. Morning departure by private motorcoach to Siracusa for locally guided tour, including the Archaeological Area, taking in the Greek Theatre (5th Century BC); ancient Paradise Quarry and Roman Amphitheatre (3rd Century BC); Old Town on the island of Ortygia, with its medieval and Baroque Palaces featuring the Temple of Apollo (ruins), the oldest known Doric temple in Western Europe; return to Catania for overnight at Hotel NH Jolly Bellini.
