RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include teaching courses primarily in law enforcement with emphasis on social and behavioral sciences. Course responsibilities may include some combination of the following, but are not limited to: Minnesota Criminal Code, Senior Seminar, Tactics, Advanced Criminal Investigations, Policing in a Diverse Society and other specialty courses utilizing the candidate’s specialty areas. The candidate hired for this position will be expected to teach, advise, contribute to the growth and development of undergraduates in our Law Enforcement program and participate in scholarship and service activities. The department is strongly committed to diversity and preparing students for work with diverse populations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of a Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, or other area related to law enforcement.
• Potential for excellent teaching, scholarship, advising, and service.
• Ability to bring diversity to our department, college, and university.
• Law enforcement or other criminal justice agency experience.
• Ability to integrate academic and practitioner aspects of the law enforcement profession.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
• Completed Ph.D. or completion of the terminal degree with practical experience in Law Enforcement.
• Teaching experience.
• A record of scholarship.
RELATED INFORMATION:
The Department has sixteen full-time faculty, seven of whom teach mostly in law enforcement. The total department has over 600 majors, of which more than 400 are law enforcement, and most of that 400 want to become Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board certified in Minnesota. The program has an outstanding reputation and attracts students from diverse backgrounds. The Department offers the B.A. and B.S. degrees in Law Enforcement, Political Science, and International Relations, as well as the M.A. in Political Science, and the M.A. in Public Administration.
