This page is about what I like to do outside my work. When I'm not working, I enjoy making and listening to music, running (usually outdoors, year round!), and wine appreciation. These pictures show me engaged in some of these activities.
Weather permitting, I run throughout the year, and I have run several 10K road races. Here I'm near the finish line of the first annual Chief's Challenge Run in Good Thunder, Minnesota, Saturday, September 21, 2002. I finished this race in 43 minutes, 30 seconds.
This is Musicorum, the Mankato-based choral group I have been a member of ever since moving to Mankato in the fall of 1998. The picture was taken just after our spring concert at Good Counsel Chapel in Mankato, May 8, 2004. Our director, Dr. Gregory Aune (far left), is also director of choral activities at Gustavus Adolphus College.
I also like to play popular music on the piano completely by ear. Here I'm playing and singing the Beatles' "Hey Jude" at my church's talent show. Sunday, March 28, 2004.
At last fall's Harvest Wine Tasting with me are Peggy and Glenn Morris, friends from my church. Friday, September 19, 2003.
Just for fun: a blast from the past! No joke: this REALLY WAS my license plate during my student years in North Carolina, and for some of my graduate school years in Iowa. The most fun part was being stopped at a stoplight, looking in the rearview mirror and watching people in the car behind me read the message on the plate. I could see them mouth the words, then usually burst into laughter. Click here to go to Dr. Slocum's home page. |
