Sociology Department Students initiated the Family Violence Conference hosted by the Women's Center's Sexual Violence Education Program. The conference with keynote speaker Shawn McRae took place Monday, October 30, in the CSU Ballroom. Shawn MacRae is the Executive Director of Crime Victim Services, Inc. and the Accord Training Academy Training Coordinator. Further! Ms. MacRae is an online Sociology Instructor for Rasmussen College and a former Adjunct Professor for( Minnesota State Umversity, Mankato. She holds a posItion on the Steering Committee for the Minnesota Victim Assistance Academy (MNVAA) and conducts the domestic violence portion of MNVAA's training program. MacRae graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Sociology and went on to achieve a Master of Science degree in Sociology with an emphasis on Human Services, Administration and Planning; both degrees were obtained at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Additionally, she has conducted empirical research on Women Exiting Violent Relationships. MacRae has oeen in the victim: services field for over 10 years and uses her personal life experiences as a survivor of incest, stalking and domestic abuse along with her education to create innovative programs for survivors and effective training opportunities for people working in this field.
