April 24, 2023 |

Students and faculty from the Department of Art & Design attended NSSC 18, the 18th National Student Show Conference held in Dallas, Texas. NSSC is the nation’s largest student creative conference and competition with more than $20k in scholarships.  NSSC has unique opportunities to help students enhance their design education and prepare themselves for the professional world. This show includes studio tours, networking, portfolio 1:1 with design professionals, workshops, creative panels, and keynote speakers.

At the conference, Seiji Ikeda, Associate Professor of Graphic Design, won the Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Educator of the Year. AIGA Mankato nominated him for his role in impacting students at Minnesota State Mankato in such a short period of time (Prof. Ikeda joined the department in the Fall of 2022). With his help, students were able to create a student community in the graphic design program, which helped students create belonging in the Minnesota State Mankato design community. In addition, his broad expertise as a visual communication designer and educator helped students to develop their design skills.
