The Certificate of Study in Gerontology is granted by Minnesota State University, Mankato on completion of 18 credits of approved course work in the field of gerontology. The program is intended for persons who wish to acquire a core of knowledge and skill in gerontology, but who may not wish to pursue a degree program with a gerontology component. The certificate is awarded at either the undergraduate or graduate level and signifies completion of an approved multi-disciplinary course of study in gerontology. As such, it may have value to prospective employers who seek evidence of specialized study that is relevant to working with or on behalf of the elderly.
Admission to the undergraduate program requires the associate degree or its equivalent. All other requirements for admission to study apply at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to admission to study at the university, admission to the certificate program requires formal application to the gerontology program. Upon admission, a program of study must be developed with and approved by the Director of the Gerontology Program. Academic advising for the certificate program is provided by the director of the gerontology program.
