Social Work - Christine Black Hughes and Nancy Fitzsimons accompanied social work students’ Jessica Eicholz, Rachel Grosen, Amy Schacht, Katie Olichwier, Cheryl Kaberle, Peggy Sorenson, Cati Johanneck, Sarah Landin, Brianna Carroll, Crystal Waas, Ann Fernandez, Christina Heruth and MacKenzie Collin to Social Work Day at the Capitol on April 3.  The students met with Senator John Hottinger, Representative John Dorn and Representative Ruth Johnson to lobby on policy issues of importance to social workers.

Social Work - Annelies Hagemeister will be delivering the keynote address for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Kami M. Talley Reading and Resource Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, May 10, 2006. She will be discussing how her relationship with Ms. Talley, who was murdered in 1996 by her estranged boyfriend, helped to solidify her commitment to teaching and research in the area of domestic violence and social work.

URSI - The League of MN Cities recognized the marketing brochure to promote city tourism and growth that Janesville’s City Administrator Clinton Rogers and Professor Janet Cherrington collaborated on in the “City News,” section of their Minnesota Cities publication.

URSI - Miriam Porter, Perry Wood, and Tony Filipovitch were chosen by Scott County to lead four townships in a strategic planning process from October, 2005, through January, 2006. 

URSI - Tony Filipovitch was a delegate for the InterCity Leadership Visit to Bellingham, Washington, October 2-4, 2005.

Urban & Regional Studies and the Region IX Development Commission were selected by the Minnesota Department of Administration to receive the Minnesota State Planning Agency’s “Local Planning Assistance” library and to take over the functions of the Local Planning Assistance Center.

College of Social & Behavioral Sciences – held the third annual Mankato and Beyond Lecture, “The Triumph of Human Spirit: Roseville Police Officers Respond to Hurricane Katrina.” Roseville Police Chief Carol Sletner, a Minnesota State Mankato alumna and chair of the SBS Advisory Board, spoke along with Officer Alan Stefani and Sgt.
