Field Survey Techniques

Learn archeological survey techniques in the beautiful Cannon River Valley! This year we will focus on survey techniques to locate previously unrecorded habitation and mound sites, and site testing techniques at lowland Oneota villages. There will be some rigorous hiking days up and down the bluffs and bushwacking through dense vegetation, balanced by quiet days working next to the river.

This is an intensive, 5-week, 6-credit field school. We will camp at the Silvernale village and organize daily activities from there. Field techniques will include pedestrian survey, shovel testing, test units, GPS recording, digital data management, etc.
