Study Abroad in Tropea
The Tropea program is a cultural study experience that takes place partly at Minnesota State Mankato and partly in Tropea, Italy. In successfully completing the program, students earn 18 MSU credits.
Students will spend the first eight weeks of the semester at Minnesota State Mankato learning communication skills and the cultural characteristics of the region. Students will also learn how to use the Italian train system, how to prepare basic Italian food, and how to use the telephone and Internet options available to them while they are abroad. The remaining eight weeks at Piccola Universita Italiana (PUI) will be spent in intensive language and cultural studies. Piccola Universita Italiana is located in the beautiful coastal city of Tropea, Italy.
At Piccola Universita Italiana cultural studies will include planned excursions into the surrounding area (identified below), student sessions with Italian students, and interactions with local residents. This is a faculty led experience under the direction of Dr. Maria Bevacqua, who will be in Tropea for the first two weeks of the program. In Tropea, Minnesota State Mankato students will have single rooms in shared apartments with kitchenettes, where they will be able to practice their Italian Culinary Skills.

The cost will include an intensive educational experience at Piccola University – cultural experience and communication study. The approximately $6700, includes Piccola Universita Italiana tuition, lodging, cultural excursions, airfare, food and incidentals.
This is the cost above the student’s normal fulltime Minnesota State Mankato tuition and living expenses while in Mankato.
Because the study abroad experience is a required part of a course, students can apply to increase their financial aid award loans to cover the additional costs. If you are interested in increasing your financial aid, please ask Dr. Bevacqua for the Tropea Study Abroad Financial Aid Fact Sheet.
