You will earn 3 upper division credits in History and 1 credit in Social Studies.

Social Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato, is planning a one-week learning experience in Mexico. No, this isn’t spring break on the beach, but it is a wonderful opportunity to see some very interesting historical sites in Mexico, actually teach in a Mexican school (in English), and get to know Mexican young people, their families and how they live.

We will spend three days in Mexico City and in Guanajuato. We will visit historical sites that will illuminate our study of the history of Mexico prior to departure. We will spend two days in Irapuato where we are planning that you will stay with host families. During the day you will be part of Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Irapuato. At the school you will give classes (in English) to junior and/or senior high school students.

During the semester we will meet as a class and learn about the history of Mexico from Matt Loayza of the History Department. We will also prepare for the visit by learning about cultural expectations of the visit and developing lessons for our teaching.
