E. Dale Peterson
1929-1992

E. Dale Peterson joined the MSU faculty in 1959. He taught economic principle's courses and was the chair of the Economics Department from 1960 until his sudden death in 1992. Dr. Peterson was also the director of the Minnesota Economic Association from 1968 to 1970 and was the former president of the MSU faculty association. He was the president of the Minnesota State Conference of American Association of University Professors from 1973 to 1975 and was listed in editions of "Outstanding Educators of America."

Edward Dale Peterson was born in Iowa on April 18, 1929. He received his bachelor's degree in 1951 from the University of Northern Iowa. He then went on to receive his master's and doctorate degree from Indiana University. He was married to Jean (Lovig) Peterson who was once the director of The Children's House. The E. Dale Peterson Memorial Endowment Fund was established in his memory and offers scholarships to students who are majoring in Economics.

Dr. Peterson's caring and compassionate nature won the hearts of many faculty, staff, and students. A tree was planted on the grounds at MSU in his memory. The plaque simply states: Humanist, Teacher, Leader, Friend, Gardener.
