This scholarship has been set up in loving memory of Dorie Morinville, who was a part of the Mankato area women's community from her late teens until her death at the age of 34. Dorie found acceptance and encouragement within the women's community along with other private support systems. She was a "survivor" with a fierce and independent spirit. Dorie struggled an uphill battle throughout her life with an unstable and sporadic educational background. Born in 1962, Dorie obtained her GED and pursued further education at the Mankato Vocational College, the latter left uncompleted due to financial and personal difficulties.
Dorie had an interest in supporting the advancement and healing of the lives of women, especially those lacking in the financial arena and in the area of social privilege. This scholarship has been set up in hopes of lessening the financial obstacle in the pursuit of education, hopefully an education that will help the recipient fulfill one aspect of her dreams. Consideration is given to re-entering college students, first-generation college students, single parents, those who demonstrate a high financial need, those who demonstrate an awareness of "inner self" and have a strong desire to "do what it takes" to succeed and bring balance to their personal, academic and private lives.
