Ione Howe Louk Scholarship

Ione Howe Louk was born in Greenfield, Iowa on September 8, 1912. She earned her AFA degree at Drake University in 1932. She married Harry Louk and moved to Austin, Minnesota where she was actively involved in the community serving two terms as president of state and local boards of the League of Women Voters. She also served on the city charter commission, the Community Fund and Planned Parenthood. She completed her AA degree at Austin Community College in 1972.

Ione moved to Mankato in 1975 to further her education, earning a bachelor's degree in 1976 and a master's degree in 1983 at the age of 71. She was a graduate assistant in Women's Studies and the Women's Center at MSU. In the Women's Center she served on the initial grant-writing committee, developed a reorientation program for re-entry students, and served as assistant director. With the Women's Studies Department, she was a program committee member from 1979 to 1981. Ione passed away in 1983.

The Ione Howe Louk endowment was established in 1984 and provides scholarship money for a female, single parent enrolled in MSU's undergraduate program.
