Dr. Mohamed H. Askalani was born February 2, 1941, in Egypt. He came to the United States in 1963 to study for a doctoral degree in economics. He received his Ph.D. in economics in 1970 from Iowa State University. In 1969, he joined the faculty of Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he served as an economics professor until retiring in May 2001. In 1996, he was selected for Who's Who Among American Teachers. He was active on the MSU campus and in the Islamic community.
Dr. Askalani was 61 years old when he passed away April 13, 2002, from complications after heart surgery. Colleagues established this fund in his memory. Economics majors who will be seniors in 2003 are eligible for the award.
