Change of Major/Minor  Under 30 credits in SBS- SBS Advising Center. Over 30 credits- astudent goes to the major or minor department. Note: the process to add/change majors is different for each Academic College.
Consortium Agreement Process
Consortium agreements for financial aid are used if a student is taking a course at another institution while still attending MNSU. Advisor letters are typically required in this process
Degree Audit Reports General information about DARs from the Office of the Registrar. Advisors can view advisees DARs in E-services under Advisee List

 Emergency Grant  For many students, an unexpected car repair or a medical bill can mean the end of their college hopes. While typically not large expenses, they can be enough to put these students in a serious bind: stay in college or pay the bill. By quickly delivering small grants to students encountering unexpected expenses, Minnesota State University, Mankato helps more of these students stay in school and on track for degree completion.

Advising Training Opportunities

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences provide various trainings for advisors. Information about these opportunities are communicated by the College at the beginning of each semester.

  • Advising 101 Training: The SBS Advising Center will be offering Advising 101 training again this semester! This training is recommended for new faculty members and advisors in SBS, but would also serve a great refresher for those who are interested. Topics include: General education, 8/2 rule, reading a Degree Audit Report (DARs), accessing your advisee list, and more!

  • A student success platform that helps deliver advising notes, early alert surveys, midterm reports, and allows for online advising appointment scheduling.
  • It is a system that can flag students at risk, pinpoint areas of concern, reinforce positive academic engagement, and connect students with early interventions.
  • Faculty and advisors can use MavConnect by Starfish to connect with advisees, document advising interactions, and raise alerts/flags/concerns throughout the semester, not just at early alert and mid-term time.
